Skills Checkpoint Program – Support for Older Workers

With the recent budget focus on getting persons back into the workforce there are questions around where the support is for more mature-aged workers who are looking to retain their position or re-enter the workforce.

The answer is the Australian Government funded Skills Checkpoint for Older Workers program!

Available to eligible persons across Australia, the program has already helped thousands of mature age workers to retain their employment or change their career path and re-enter the workforce.

The Skills Checkpoint Program supports eligible 45-70 year olds who are currently working (or unemployed for less than 9 months), with no-cost career advisory services and 50% course funding to assist participants to re-skill or up-skill (for a maximum rebate amount of $2000).

The 50% course funding component is potentially ending 31st December 2020, so interested persons are encouraged to get in quick!

Here’s what just some of the Skills Checkpoint participants have to say about the program:

Having to re-join the workforce at an older age, the help and assistance given to me by BUSY At Work was invaluable.”  Helen Tester

As a sole trader, finally finding an opportunity that I could access was so inspiring. The BUSY Group gave me choice, ownership and empowerment to invest in my own future, in a way and time best suited my needs whilst gaining two qualifications. It was invaluable to my self-esteem, confidence, future business needs and will translate into stronger knowledge, better services and more choice for my clients! Thank you for all the great work and to my career advisor, Paula, who was such a positive role model and staunch advocate for skills recognition and life-long learning“.  Jacene

“I am now working three part time roles, thanks to the program and funding to get my TAE. So the proverbial ‘out of the frying pan, into the fire’, syndrome has happened! It’s been a rocky road and how quickly things can change given time. So, just a big thank-you to you and the organisation for helping me on my way”.  Richard Hunter

“I have really appreciated the valuable support that you provided… The Skills Checkpoint program has been a game changer for me, having been under employed for such a long time. You and the team at BUSY At Work have been very generous with your support when I felt a bit overwhelmed with choice, and then facilitating the payment for my training program. The practical tips you and the team at DOME provided, helped to transform my resume and cover letter. I was stunned at the difference it made, getting a call the very next day after applying.  I am enjoying my new role driving buses to assist indigenous and other clients getting to critical medical appointments”.  Rod Schofield
